Two-day Junkin Trip
The phone call starts with…..are you up for a road trip :)
Kim (theprimitivepaintbrush) on IG; who also works at VG every Friday (as well as pitching in at other times) is redoing her kitchen with vintage cabinets. Which means she is scouring marketplace looking for the right piece. (If you don’t follow her - please do - and see her kitchen. Its gorgeous <3
Anyway, we hit the road Monday morning and headed to a small city outside of Rockford, IL. Road construction caused a detour and we were lucky enough to find an antique mall (stop 1). We found treasures there! Our plan was to drive straight to the cabinet pick up, and we did pretty well until…we happened on another antique mall (stop 2). Stop 3 was the very perfect, beautiful cabinet. In Rockford we made Stop 4 and 5. I was only looking for smalls, but I ended up buying three pieces of furniture as well as some smalls. We also hit a thrift store (stop 5) where I purchased more furniture. The only strike out for the day was another thrift store (stop 6). Its always a bummer to not find something at every stop.
At this point we headed to our hotel in Aurora. We picked up adult beverages and dinner on the way to the hotel. Showers, jammies and eating in bed. So good! I think we were both asleep shortly after that (we sure know how to party!)
This morning we were up and out the door to our first thrift stop (stop 7). Bought a lot of smalls here. After that we headed in to Indiana (stops 8 and 9). More smalls were purchased. Which is what I need…so yay!
Kim also found some treasures to paint on. She was only looking for unique pieces, and she did find a few. I’m looking forward to seeing them when she is done. (she sells at the Yankee Peddlar downtown Grand Haven if you want to purchase her paintings)
Our stops 10,11,12 were at thrift stores in Michigan. Only number 11 left us empty handed.
By the time we got home I had furniture in the truck bed and you could not open my backdoor without treasures tumbling out. Love a truck full of vintage.
The picture of me with the hat (hand painted by Kim) and my candy cigarettes is a joke between us……after our October Uhaul adventure I decided my next career would be a truck driver! You need a hat and a cigarette for that job, right ;)
Another fun junkin trip with a great friend. (And this means fresh-picked vintage at the store this week - woohoo)
